new signing Mark Burchill thinks so.

Mark Burchill has vowed to fire Kilmarnock to a top-six finish this season after signing a one-year deal with the Rugby Park club.

The former Celtic striker, 28, has returned to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League after several seasons with Dunfermline and a spell at Rotherham.

He said: "Kilmarnock are about the only SPL team that haven't really lost any key first-team players over the summer, while a lot of other teams are getting weaker in terms of the players they've lost.

"You could even say we're stronger than last season because the manager has been able to add to his squad with the likes of myself, Graeme Owens and Steven Old.

"If we can get a bit of consistency I don't see why we can't challenge for the top six.

"You look at the strikers here and there's big Kevin Kyle, Allan Russell, David Fernandez, young Conor Sammon and now myself, so we shouldn't be short of goals.

"That's an important thing for any club because I'm sure even Kilmarnock will admit they struggled because they didn't score enough in the first half of last season.

"Now that the deal has been finalised, I'm just desperate for the season to start."

Killie chairman Michael Johnston praised the efforts of Burchill in winning a contract with the Ayrshire side.

He told the club's official website: "Mark has shown real determination to play for Kilmarnock and to gain this contract by joining the squad at its pre-season training camp in Italy and subsequently training with us without a contract.

"Prior to that he was working with a sprint coach and a personal fitness trainer to make sure he was in peak condition.

"So, with Alan Russell recovering from injury, when Kevin Kyle became an injury doubt for the start of the season it was great to have Mark on hand to strengthen the squad.

"He knows he faces stiff competition to become a regular first-team starter but he has the right attitude and loads of experience. I wish him every success."

What is the lowest position you can come in the SPL and still finish in Europe. Is it top 4 or something?

Fair enough. Do you think Killie will ever be able to make Europe?

I mean, how far behind teams like Hibs are you in quality?

I'd say hibs are probably behind us in terms of pure quality on our day like...
I'm sure 4th does get you something like... really not sure. I think killie can achieve top 6 in the coming years and get top 3 then.....

Problem with football up here is no one outside the old firm are consistent... last year hearts finished 3rd and were very hard too beat... this season they're doing fucking awful... Literally up here ,bar celtic and gers, any team can beat any team.
